The Middle School Social Studies Program is based upon
the Teacher’s Curriculum Institute, History Alive!
Program. This exciting and innovative approach to learning
Social Studies provides for hands-on activities, as well as actual characterization
and the re-living of historical events. From the recreation of actually
writing the Declaration of Independence to the re-enactment of man’s
first walk on the moon, students feel, experience, and grow into the
fiber that creates our history.
Sixth Grade
The sixth grade will study the ancient times of Egypt,
China, Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, as well as other countries. The development
of their cultures and their contributions that have effected modern
day will also be explored. Students will study the major wars throughout
the history of the world, their causes and effects. Christian support
for addressing human needs, Christian respect for the diversity of all
people, economic development, artistic contributions, and educational
development throughout history, are many of the topics that students
will discover. Student will understand how physical dimensions of the
world affect the development of each country in their study of the geography
of the world. Field trips, hands on learning, current events, mock elections,
and debates are some of the tools that are used to ensure a firm foundation
in the development of World History.
Seventh Grade
The seventh grade will focus on the cultural, political,
and economic development of Texas. The students will study the geography
of Texas and its effects on the people, economy, work force, and the
cultural diversity of the state. Students will study notable individuals
who have contributed to the state of Texas. The government of Texas,
which has a rich beginning, will be analyzed to determine the influence
and interests of political parties throughout the state. Some of the
methods to ensure a thorough understanding for all students will be
field trips, debate, mock elections, current events, and hands on learning.
Eighth Grade
The eighth grade class will study American History,
from its origination to mid 19th century. The students will study economic,
political, social, and geographic aspects of the United States. The
eighth grade will focus on the Christian ideals of justice for all,
peace, and freedom in the United States of America. Citizenship with
its many practices, ideals and responsibilities will be explored. The
major documents in U.S. history, major wars of our country, and major
economic events and their impact will be studied. Some of the methods
to ensure a thorough understanding for all students will be field trips,
debate, mock elections, current events, and hands on learning. Students
will learn to live the history they are studying in order to become
proud American citizens.
